Gabriela Experiences the Healing Power of Music

Gabriela is a shy 12-year-old who recently had a life-saving liver transplant. Her medical condition meant she qualified for a transformational experience from Make-A-Wish.

Gabriela loves music and dreamed of having her very own piano to play at home. Thanks to Yamaha Canada, her wish came true!

On the day her wish was granted, Make-A-Wish staff and volunteers wanted to surprise Gabriela with the big reveal of her piano. While it was being set up in her home, she and her family were taken by limousine to the National Music Centre in Calgary for a private tour.

During the tour Gabriela was allowed to see displays that are not normally open to the public and was given special permission to play pianos that are on exhibit and even had an on-site piano lesson. While this was happening, St. John’s Music, delivered her piano to her house and Make-A-Wish volunteers prepared for a celebration.

When Gabriela returned home, her family marveled at the new piano and enjoyed cake and Gabriela received gifts and new piano lesson books. She was also given free piano lessons to get her started on her musical journey.

Gabriela’s wish come true is sure to bring her joy for many years to come.

Special thanks to Studio Bell, National Music Centre, Yamaha Canada Music and St. John’s Music for helping create Gabriela’s incredible wish.

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s heart. For wish kids like Victoria, who are faced with critical illnesses, a wish-come-true provides them with strength to battle through darkness and hope for healthier, happier days ahead.
